Pymol and Coot 3D stereo on Qosmio F750 Laptop

I successfully use both Pymol and Coot 3D stereo on Qosmio through Zalman stereo option. Toshiba Qosmio F750 can support 3D stereo viewing on Coot and Pymol without the need to use 3D glasses.

If you own Qosmio F750, you need these important 3D gaming updates.
1.Qosmio F750(3D model) Win7 64bit: nVidia Display Driver update Version (290.39)
2.Qosmio F750(3D model) Win7 64bit: Super-D IC Driver update version 1.0.1613.809
3.Qosmio F750(3D model) Win7 64bit: Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player update version
4.BIOS version 2.00 upgrade for Qosmio F750 (for PQF70*, PQF75*)

The most important application for this purpose is 3D screen Activator.

Glasses Free 3D stereo viewing on Toshiba Qosmio F750

With this tiny software from Kevin Cox, you can switch 3D capability on various screens. Therefore, you can use regular 2D programs at the same time while you are viewing the 3D structures except for the menu button which is a bit blurry.

As in most glasses free 3D stereo, the bonds and mesh are not perfect because of the second shadow. However, I am really satisfied with my 3D surface an ribbon movie creation. You can only watch it alone though, because the camera need to capture your eyes for the image correction.

I installed all the drivers and 3D activator, however not able to view in 3D. its kind of blur and could see as layers not exactly 3D. Please help me

      Dear Nagaraju,

Firstly, I assumed that you already have the correct hardware which is Toshiba Qosmio F750 with “3D model” options when you purchased it (F750 have either a 3D or a non-3D model and you must purchase the 3D model).

Secondly, you should be able to watch 3D movie from the laptop without any special installation, just go to Toshiba Blu-ray Disc Player, can you view it when you select 3D options in there?

Thirdly, the SuperD program should be automatically opened and bring up a face tracking camera to detect your eyes. The screen resolution must be 1920×1080. If you have these steps working correctly, you are getting very close to success with molecular visualization.

Both software I mentioned, PyMOL and Win-Coot, have a special function to call Zalman’s 3D interleaved mode. Once they are activated, go to 3D icon on the lower right corner, select the 3D row-interleaved for the corresponding program.

      Hope that helps.

I purchased a Toshiba Qosmio laptop X875Q7390. This has inbuilt ir emiter. It came with NVIDIA 3D VISION active shutter glasses. I can see the 3d stereo using this glass for some given still pictures. I want to set 3d stereo for PYMOL and COOT. I am currently running windows 8 (64 bit). Could you please help me?
    Thanking you in advance…

      Hi Hena,

Your laptop model is not a glasses-free 3D. Please see PyMOL wiki under Active stereo 3D, which shows how to set it up with Nvidia 3D vision kit.

    Hi Nanonan,

the link of the 3D screen Activator is no longer valid. And I cannot find the home page of Kevin Cox. Do you have the software and can you please send me a new link where I can download the software?

The Qosmio F750 3D laptop is no longer supported by Toshiba (i.e. has been become obsolet). But I want to use it any more, because I cannot find any new 3D laptop currently on the market.

      Hi Michael,

The laptop and the software were both available in 2012 till a couple years later. However, this Qosmio 3D-glasses free laptop is no longer sold by Toshiba and I really believe the Mr. Cox’s 3D-activator software is very specific to this Toshiba model. If you have not already get a hold of a glasses free 3D laptop, Kevin perhaps cannot help guiding you the way. If you do need it, I will write to him whether he would be happy to help you and I will send you his email.

        Hi Nanonan,

I bought the Qosmio F750 3D laptop in 2012 and I also believe that Mr. Cox Software is only made for this model (but perhaps for the F755 too). I got the information about the existence of this software recently (may be four years too late). Until now, I only can view old BluRay 3D discs with the original Toshiba BluRay Player but never see my own 3D video clips which are stored as avi, or webm file. The newer BluRay discs cannot be played by this software, even they are in 2D.
So my hope is to install the software of Mr. Cox on my Qosmio F750 3D laptop to see 3D pictures with another video players and photos with Stereo Photo Maker.

I think upgrading Toshiba’s Qosmio F750 here would solve most of your problems. 3D-screenactivator will be sent to your email soon.
